Prepare to be bowled over, blown away and knocked out by Jade Ewen. Given her incredible capabilities, it's hard to know what to be dazzled by first; her jaw-dropping vocal or the overwhelming immediacy of her insistent melodies. With the technical abilities of Whitney and Mariah, and the aspirational cool of Rihanna and Lady GaGa, Jade's forthcoming debut album delivers synth-led ballads, razorsharp R&B, and edgy electro-pop. Combining an outstanding vocal performance with cutting-edge choreography, Jade embodies the current mood in music - credible cool with a mainstream twist. It's rare, unheard of even, to discover an artist able to offer the perfect pop package, yet, from even the amazing debut single My Man, Jade's debut is a certified heavy hitter.
Growing up in Plaistow, east London wasn't - and still isn't - easy. Being mixed-race, pretty and talented made her a target among her teenage peers and Jade was often picked on, threatened and taunted. Back at home too, life wasn't easy; taking her GCSE's while looking after for her two younger siblings as well as caring for her disabled parents - her dad is blind and partially deaf and her mum suffers from the auto-immune illness Myasthenia Gravis and is also partially blind - added to the pressure.
Studying at Sylvia's is where Jade was able to broaden her performance potential; putting en pointe on hold after tutors noticed her outstanding singing voice. Music was always Number One though, as she expanded her range from alto to soprano, and began learning to write her own songs. A stint in a girl group, a short-lived record deal and the opportunity to perform before 100million people as part of Eurovision has delivered Jade a wealth of opportunities and experiences.
So what else should you know about this 21 year-old, 5"4 (or 5"8 in heels!) east Londoner? Jade Almerie Louise Ewen is a part-time painter who enjoys sketching, she's kept a diary every single day since the age of 12, she loves the TV show Heroes. Yet, we've only touched the tip of what Jade has to offer. For this ambitious, creative, driven artist, the gloves are off and she's ready to land the final blow. There's no doubt that her debut album will knock us all for six!
"I've grown up knowing that if I don't go out attack life, and fight for what I want, then I just won't get it," Jade insists. "Coming from a council estate in East London, where we didn't have any money, with two disabled parents. I really don't know how I got to where I am now. But I'm not about to stop fighting; there's no limit to what I want to achieve, and I won't stop until I get it!"
